Where she started
She describes it plainly: this was well outside her comfort zone. Not the content, she knows her field. The stage. Standing in front of a room and holding it for the length of a talk, on a subject she actually cares about, which raises the stakes rather than lowering them.
So she went looking for someone professional to walk it with her. A colleague who had worked with me a lot made the introduction.
And she named her two goals up front, which is rarer than it sounds. One: to feel ready. Two: to enjoy the road there. Most people only name the first, and then endure the second.
How we worked
She came as herself, not as a template
In her words: she never had to fit herself to a model. She arrived as she was, and we worked with what was there.
Precise direction inside a flexible frame
She describes both halves: a lot of knowledge, aimed precisely, and at the same time a frame flexible enough that it bent around her instead of the other way round.

The part I did not plan
I decided to come to the talk. She did not know. She says being surprised by another pair of friendly eyes in the room mattered, and that it moved her that the person who walked the road was also there for the thing it led to.
I came to support and to accompany, and she valued that a great deal. That is simply how I am with the people I accompany.
